We’ve missed connecting with you over the past few months and hope everyone is enjoying an exciting and cool summer. We are back and raring to go with tons of exciting ideas about design, coastal living, travel, food and so much more. Those of us at Tim Clarke Design love to work hard and play hard and celebrate any chance we can get. What an amazing time for our country as it comes together on so many issues. At Coastal Modern Style, Tower 20 and Tim Clarke Design we are proud to be American and proud to celebrate our country’s 237th birthday. Happy 4th of July!
No matter what your family’s traditions are for the 4th of July, it is a great time to relax, celebrate and enjoy the freedom our great country offers. We have a few twists on some favorite Independence Day activities that just might make your holiday special and add a little extra fun to your celebration.
Who doesn’t love a great BBQ dish on the 4th. Whether you’re a hardcore carnivore enjoying grilled chicken, carne asada or delectable lamb chops or a vegetarian who savors grilled asparagus, zucchini, eggplant or the traditional corn on the cob, we urge you to try “The Big Green Egg.”
The Big Green Egg is so much more than a typical barbecue. Not only is it a beautiful example of great American design, it is the ultimate experience in outdoor cooking. The Big Green Egg is based on Kamado, the Japanese style of cooking in an earthen vessel. We love the Big Green Egg because of its diversity in cooking. Use it as a grill, an oven or even a smoker.

Starry, Starry Morning
Typically, 4th of July activities are relegated to the afternoon and evening. But as we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why not start your holiday off with a fun breakfast menu that sets the tone for the day. We like making buckwheat pancakes and then top them with fresh raspberries and blueberries. To really impress your family, use a star-shaped cookie cutter and cut stars out of your pancakes. Add a little crème fraiche on top of your pancakes and berries and you have a delicious and beautiful spectrum of red, white and blue!
When the summer heat cranks up, we love to keep cool with a refreshing icy concoction called “California Snow.” TREATS, a local Santa Monica ice cream shop, created this version of a snow cone and they offer several unique flavors like blood orange, caramel apple, passion fruit, pomegranate and peppermint, just to name a few. All of their flavors are naturally sweetened with pure cane sugar and TREATS never uses any high fructose corn syrup. TREATS is located at 1700 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405, 310.310.3328.
Whatever you decide to do to celebrate the 4th of July we hope it includes a beautiful fireworks presentation. Nothing says “Happy Birthday America,” like vibrant, colorful pinwheels and rocket trails lighting up the summer sky. This is a thrilling shot of last year’s 4th of July fireworks celebration at the Santa Monica Pier. I’m sure this year will also be filled with lots of “oooohs” and “ahhhhhs” along the beach. Happy 4th!
